Peter Hunt

In memoriam, Peter Hunt, July 30, 1952 – July 22, 2024

Peter Hunt was an international entrepreneur, with Estonian roots who bought shares in Wendre in 1996, prior this he had many years of experience as a sportswear vendor. Peter’s parents escaped to Sweden from a war-torn Estonia during the Russian occupation and faced many hardships in starting a better life for their family. His parents defeated all odds and never gave up, Peter, never gave up. This instilled in Peter a moral compass which led him to great hights with much success. Due to his Estonian heritage Peter had a link to the Pärnu county area and in 2002 Peter become the sole owner of Wendre and created the group it is today. Under his leadership, Wendre became one of Europe’s most successful textile producers.

Peter was a hands-on people leader with a clear vision. He was elected the Entrepreneur of 2009 in Estonia (award by Ernst & Young and the Estonian Business School).

Peter was larger than life, genuine and down to earth, he knew what he wanted. He communicated at all levels and never flaunted his position or status. His energy was infectious and his ideas that came spontaneously all the time were very inspiring that built the strong Wendre Group we have today. When you met Peter, you never forgot him, he commanded respect and most listen when he spoke and acknowledge him when he entered a room. Peter always had time to listen to one, no matter of your position in life and offered advice where he thought fitting, he took the time to ask about family and was not only focus on Wendre but on each person he interacted with. He was a generous man and gentle giant in every respect. He had an extremely dry sense of humour he used continuously that broke many a tense conversation, but with great outcomes never offending the recipient. Peter built a great legacy that has life, is fluid and adaptable and when one thinks of Peter one thinks of Wendre, they are one and the same.

Due to Peter being a keen sports person, he developed several top-notch golf courses in the Nordic region and was a member of the Estonian Golf Association board. Further to that Peter was also a football fan of IFK Norrköping Sweden and was the club’s president for 12 years. Very recently Peter was appointed to Vita Hasten’s board with the aim of taking Norrköping hockey team to greater hights with other enthusiasts and likeminded entrepreneurs. The Wendre Group, which is composed of Wendre Estonia and Poland, Wendre Finland Oy, golf resorts Pärnu Bay Golf Links, Saare Golf and nutrition products company Indevex, belongs to Trading House Scandinavia, a conglomerate that has grown over the years, to be the leaders in their respective fields.

With Peter’s sudden passing on the 22 July 2024 the baton for Wendre was handed over to Gisela Hunt and his children, Helene and Simon Hunt.

What an extraordinary man, may his soul rest in peace, gone but never forgotten!
